Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using eolma.

What is eolma?
eolma is a platform designed and made in Auckland that helps people split bulk purchases. If you buy something in bulk and want to share the cost (and the product) with someone else, eolma connects you with people nearby who are interested.
How does splitting work?
To create a split request, you upload the item if it's not already on the platform. eolma uses AI to extract the details from a photo, and you can review and edit everything before it goes live. If the item is already listed and the price hasn't changed, you don't need to upload it again. Other users can browse listings and send a split request. Once you accept, you and your split partner can chat to arrange the details and share payment information or a pickup address if you choose to.
How do I sign up?
You can sign up using your existing Google or Facebook account. We use these to verify your identity. No separate password is needed.
Why do you need my location?
Location is only used on the mobile app and is completely optional. If you allow it, the app can show other users that you are currently at a store, making it easier to find split partners who are nearby and ready to pick up items. Your precise location is never shared with other users. They only see whether you are "in-store" or not. Your location is not saved to our database.
Why do you ask for bank account details?
Adding bank details is completely optional and solely exists to make it easier for you to share payment information after completing a split request. Your bank details are encrypted before being stored and are never shared automatically with anyone. They are only ever sent to another user when you explicitly choose to share them in a chat conversation.
Why do you ask for a pickup address?
Adding a pickup address is completely optional and exists to make it easier to share collection details after a split has been confirmed. Your pickup address is encrypted before being stored, is never shared automatically, and is only ever sent to another user when you explicitly choose to share it in a confirmed split chat. We do not verify whether the address is real or accurate.
Who can see my information?
Your display name, profile photo, suburb, ratings, and shopping cart are visible on your public profile so other people can discover items to split. Favourites are always private. Your email and real name are never shown to other users. Bank details and pickup addresses are only shared with a split partner when you choose to share them. Chat messages are only visible to you and the other person in the conversation.
Is my data safe?
We take your privacy seriously. Sensitive information like your email, name, bank details, and pickup address is encrypted before being stored where appropriate. All data sent between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What happens if someone doesn't pay?
eolma connects users but is not a party to any transaction. Payments are arranged directly between split partners. We recommend only sharing payment details or a pickup address with users you have communicated with and feel comfortable with. You can also use the rating system to help the community identify reliable split partners.
How do ratings work?
After a split is completed, both users can rate their experience. Ratings are shown on user profiles and help the community identify trustworthy split partners.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. You can delete your account directly in Settings, or email privacy@eolma.com if you cannot access the app. You can also read our data deletion instructions. When your account is deleted, your personal information is removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Does eolma cost anything?
eolma is currently free to use. If we introduce any paid features in the future, we will let you know in advance.
Where is eolma currently available?
eolma is currently available in New Zealand.
